after David Cronenberg and Torrey Peters (featuring a retweet, a line from “The Fly” and a quote from
Peters’ recent conversation on Between the Covers)
Do caterpillars know what’s gonna happen to them? Are they born
knowing or does someone who loves them have to sit them
down & try to make change make sense with cartoons or
sock puppets? What on bug’s green earth could help you understand
that what you are is already a dream that you had?
Maybe something like: “The body determines what you can
convince others you are,” or “Most people would give
anything to be turned into something else.” Me, I’d need no
ushering toward that point of no return
but I know it’s not so freeing to learn you’re at the mercy of all
the wrong ideas. Try: there is no manager for you to
complain to. Or: How about the thrill of plunging mandibles first into
the plasma pool, whose side effects include making it easier
to love you? Last ditch, there’s always this:
you can’t change the mind without changing the body
but after that you can still change your mind.
